Meet the Tessera Quartet!

I played my first wedding in 2004 at a stunning winery in Ithaca, NY. My quartet was hired by an Ithaca College alumni who wanted current IC students to perform at their ceremony. Our quartet had been together for 3 years and we rehearsed the music for hours before the event to ensure we were ready.

I loved everything about that first wedding. The beautiful couple, the tangible feeling of love in the air, playing fun music with some of my best friends- needless to say, I was hooked! Since then I have played hundreds of weddings up and down the East Coast, and still feel so honored to perform for our couples on one of the happiest days of their lives!

Flash forward to today and the Tessera Quartet. Our name is a nod to the business name, Mosaic Musicians. A tessera is the fancy name for an individual tile used in a mosaic, and many tessera tiles are perfect squares. 4 corners on a tessera tile, 4 quartet members- my love of symbolism got the best of me and the Tessera Quartet was born!

Our violinists are Kat Jara and Sara Weir. I met Kat through my husband Carlos (Mosaic co-owner and bassist for our band, Bold as Love). Carlos and Kat worked together at the Conservatory Lab Charter School in Dorchester, and we bonded over our love of teaching and performing. Sara and I played with the Loft String Quartet for years before Mosaic was founded, and all 3 of us play together in the Brockton Symphony.

Our cellist, Alana Jeffers, and I have known each other since 2002. We met in the practice room hallway at Ithaca College and have been performing together ever since. Alana shares my love of chamber music and has the kind of gorgeous cello sound that will just melt your heart!

We love playing music from Bach to the Beatles and everything in between. We’ve done an all-Taylor Swift wedding ceremony, Jewish and Catholic ceremonies, ceremonies and cocktail hours at venues like the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and corporate events at stunning private homes on Martha’s Vineyard. We look forward to learning all about you and customizing the perfect playlist for your event!
